Chemistry in the molecular clouds of the Galactic Center

Jairo Vladimir Armijos Abendaño defended in Room 201 of Module 15 of the Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Madrid his thesis work entitled "Chemistry in the molecular clouds of the Galactic Center" directed by Jesús Martín-Pintado Martín obtaining the qualification of Outstanding "Cum Laude".

The research developed in this doctoral thesis focuses on the study of two of the main complexes of the Galactic Center, Sagittarius (Sgr) B2 and Sgr A, through the measurement of the emission / absorption from these sources in the centimeter-submillimeter wavelength range. The thesis presents the results of two spectral sweeps without bias to 3 mm carried out with the Mopra telescope in order to study the physical and chemical properties of molecular gas along two sight lines. We have also studied the spatial distribution of the emission / absorption of the rotational transitions of H2O at 557, 988 and 1113 GHz. The mapped area covered a region of ~ 8x8 pc2 from the environment of the supermassive black hole in Sgr A *. The data used in this study were observed with the HIFI instrument of the Herschel space telescope. In another part of the thesis based on data taken with the 30m IRAM telescope, a study of the spatial distribution of the emission of different types of molecular tracers (SiO, HNCO, 13CO, C18O, H13CO +, SO2 and HCO) is presented. in Sgr B2.
